Technical Description:
Connecting the fingers of Lake Hughes in Los Angeles County, this CON/SPAN® structure serves as an entrance bridge to provide access to the Painted Turtle Gang Camp. The camp is one of several in the country set up for chronically ill children by actor and philanthropist Paul Newman.
The CON/SPAN design was essential to also accommodate canoe access under the bridge. As Tom Williams of House & Robinson Architects notes, “Contech provided a very simple solution to a potentially difficult design problem.”
The first Painted Turtle Gang Camp at Lake Hughes opened in April 2004.
