The High Capacity Kraken® Filter is a state-of-the-art system utilizing advanced membrane filtration, ensuring a high-level of removal for not only TSS, but also metals, trash, and nutrients.
At the heart of the Kraken are the filter inserts. A 30” tall filter has over 170 sq ft of surface area, allowing it to treat 17 gpm at a loading rate of only 0.1 gpm/sf.
Available in vault and manhole configurations, the Kraken filter inserts are lightweight, and reusable, providing maximum performance and minimum maintenance.

The High-Capacity Kraken Filter is typically sized based on the water quality treatment flow rate. If internal bypass is required, Contech will also need the peak storm flow rate. The High-Capacity Kraken Filter features reusable filter cartridges that can be cleaned with a standard garden hose. Cartridges are typically replaced every 2 to 5 years, depending on site conditions, pollutant loading, and maintenance frequency. Routine inspection and maintenance should be used to determine the actual timing of replacement. Sites with higher sediment, trash, or construction-phase loading may require more frequent service or earlier cartridge replacement.
Yes. High-Capacity Kraken Filter cartridges can be used in cold-weather applications and are designed to withstand freezing conditions. The system should still be designed and installed according to local frost-depth, drainage, and maintenance requirements. In areas with freeze-thaw conditions, routine inspection is important to confirm that the cartridges and flow paths remain clear and functioning properly.
Collected rinse water must be handled and disposed of in accordance with local regulatory requirements. In most cases, collected rinse water is removed by the maintenance provider using a vacuum hose.
