Technical Description:
Hidden Lake, an environmentally friendly, lakeside community northeast of Raleigh, features a 75-acre lake surrounded by a heavily wooded area. The development includes several miles of pedestrian and bike paths that wind through a 100-acre park and wetland area known as the Audubon Preserve. Engineering firm ESP Associates determined that three vehicular bridges would be needed for the development.
One of the bridges was installed over the spillway not far from Hidden Lake’s attractive lakefront amenity center. ESP Associates selected the Contech Capstone® bridge style for the site. Though designed for vehicular traffic, the structure is also a part of the trail system and a separate walking path was included on the lake side of the bridge. To complete the spillway bridge, the abutments are covered in Arkansas fieldstone to add aesthetic appeal. The decision was made to use two additional Steadfast Capstone® bridges in Audubon Preserve. These 30’ wide structures span the wetlands with minimal environmental impact. “The 150’ bridge installed directly across the lake could have been smaller, but it would not have been as impressive visually from the Lake House” Compton said. “In all, the structures are beautiful...we are extremely pleased with their quality and appearance”
