Technical Description:
In order to handle the continued development and expansion in the area, the Utah Department of Transportation determined that an interchange route was needed along Bluff St and Red Hills Parkway in Washington County.
As part of this construction, a retaining wall was needed along the grade separation to help reinforce the surrounding area. The contractors were allowed to select from one of several approved UDOT mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall systems. Contractors, Wadsworth Brothers, selected a solution that was not only cost and structurally efficient but would be aesthetically designed to blend into the surrounding terrain – a Keystone® Retaining Wall system provided by Contech Engineered Solutions.
The Keystone® MSE wall system utilized was the KeySystem II (KeySteel SQ FT) – a combination of Keystone Compac II and Mirafi geogrid which provides a high quality pin connection system and would fit perfectly within the project plans and specifications outlined. The entire 5,000 SF MSE wall system was installed by Wadsworth Brothers, and the entire project was completed and open to the public on time and within budget.
