The audience engagement at our recent Contech webinar titled “Smart CSO/SSO Storage Solutions: Designing Resilient Systems for Today’s Infrastructure” was fantastic, proving that as municipalities deal with increased contaminated runoff, stricter regulations, and aging infrastructure, the hunt for reliable wastewater storage is heating up. Our presentation included several key design considerations for Contech’s DuroMaxx® SRPE tanks, which lead to various insightful questions. Many of the questions reflected similar themes, so I thought it might be beneficial to share a few – and the answers behind them to help designers better understand how the DuroMaxx® steel reinforced PE technology performs.

Proper pipe jointing is a critical aspect of designing and installing sanitary sewer systems – especially in the sizeable diameters of 30” and larger. The large joints of these systems play a pivotal role in preventing issues related to infiltration and exfiltration, which can have detrimental effects on the overall functionality of the infrastructure. Inflow and infiltration (I&I) during rain events can lead to capacity issues at wastewater treatment plants, causing severe backups in the system and sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs).

As a Gen-Xer, I am old enough to remember a time without cellphones, when getting connected with someone on the telephone literally meant being confined to a corded phone. Sometimes this was not very enjoyable - like trying to have a conversation with your crush on the kitchen wall phone (it had the longest cord) without mom trying to listen in or travelling in an unfamiliar area desperately searching for a working payphone.

In our recent national webinar featuring “Efficient Design Solutions for Airfields”, one topic that garnered a large amount of interest was dealing with contaminated runoff. Two target chemicals in the case of airfield runoff are spent glycol from aircraft deicing operations and deployed AFFF fire suppressants.
