Technical Description:
Jefferson Parish chose to replace an existing timber and concrete bridge at Ridgelake Drive. This is a typical crossing of an east-west canal where triple-cell cast-in- place box culverts are generally used. A CON/SPAN® Bridge System was offered as an alternative with a clear span of 24 feet and a 9-foot rise. The project conditions required the use of a full base slab. Once the slab was poured the installation of the CON/SPAN units, headwalls and wingwalls was accomplished in one day.
The finished project allowed Jefferson Parish the maximum hydraulic efficiency as they pumped stormwater into Lake Pontchartrain. Total footage of the CON/SPAN bridges installed in Jefferson Parish has topped 4,000 linear feet.
