Technical Description:
Sugar Land, located in eastern Fort Bend County, Texas, is approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Houston. It was founded as a sugar plantation in the mid-1800s from which it derives its name. Throughout the years, ongoing development has made the city a modern community with welcoming neighborhoods that create a sense of belong. The City of Sugar Land needed to increase the flow capacity of Sugar Creek for existing and planned development. Unfortunately, the creek was adjacent to Sugar Creek Golf course and additional land was not available. Through a joint venture, the Sugar Creek Golf Club agreed to split the cost of the project in exchange for being able to use the land above the now buried creek This provided the City with enough funding to complete the project.
Polymer-coated ULTRA FLO® pipe, manufactured by Contech Engineered Solutions, was chosen after evaluating cost of all other large diameter conveyance pipes. ULTRA FLO® spiral rib pipe provided the capacity needed at the most economical price, and the fabricated elbows and tees were considerably less expensive than precast manholes and junction boxes. The entire 2,650 LF drainage system was delivered directly to the site from a nearby Contech manufacturing facility and installed within four weeks.
