The old steel beam and concrete slab bridge on Jay Road in Farmington, Wisconsin, was dilapidated and in need of replacement. The Town of Farmington in Washington County was looking for a bridge that could be installed quickly, have a life span of 75+ years, little or no maintenance and was cost effective.

Crispell-Snyder, the engineer for the project, contacted Contech Construction Products, Inc. to investigate the use of a CON/SPAN® bridge system to see if it would meet the Town’s requirements. After some discussion and analysis, it was determined that a 28’ span by 8’ rise CON/ SPAN would meet all of the Town’s needs.

CON/SPAN’s innovative, economical design and distinctive arch action utilizes fast, set-in-place construction, ensuring a fast installation for this project. C.W. Purpero, the contractor on the project, closed the road on October 1st to remove the existing bridge and pour the footings for the CON/SPAN bridge system. The five arch units, two headwalls and four wingwalls were delivered on October 8th and set the same day.

The CON/SPAN was grouted the same day it was set and backfilled the next day, limiting the road closure time to the public to less than two weeks.
