Lookout Mountain is nestled amongst the beatific ridges of Central Phoenix and overlooks the gorgeous desert scenery of North Mountain Preserve. The houses and local community are surrounded by this natural mountainous landscaping, making it an idea place to escape from everyday life.
While the location is pristine and the local residents enjoy the scenery, the runoff from the surrounding mountain ridge can cause issues with surface water on the adjacent streets. In an effort to address these conditions and make the roadway safer for motorists and bicyclists alike, the property management team, EEC, Inc. and 3D Pipelines, knew that a surface runoff solution was required. They turned to Contech Engineered Solutions for assistance. Contech was able to provide a custom-designed Slotted Drain system that would be able to address these concerns and provide an effective surface runoff solution. Slotted Drain concept was designed as a curb inlet system that would fit directly into an existing catch basin – utilizing multiple adjacent grates for expanded inlet capacity.
Engineering and Environmental Consultants, Inc. (EEC) were extremely pleased with the outcome and Contech’s willingness to provide a unique solution that would fit within the current residential area with relatively little impact to the surrounding landscape. Randy Taylor of 3D Pipelines stated, "Contech assisted the engineer through the design phase and also provided a product that installed with no problems. The project went quickly and the customers were completely satisfied."
The Slotted Drain was manufactured with galvanized, 16-gage, corrugated steel pipe (CSP) and a custom 6” wide parallel side grate. 3D Pipelines was able to fit the new 52 LF system directly into the existing catch basin with relative ease. The pipe was cut along the longitudinal axis, providing a practical, aesthetically pleasing inlet for efficient removal of surface water along the street. A custom designed and manufactured solution like this one is beyond the standard product offering and should be reviewed by Contech Engineering and Manufacturing at the start of the project.
