Technical Description:
To enhance the riverfront of downtown Dayton, LJB Inc. was part of a team that redeveloped and designed the RiverScape MetroPark. A Continental® pedestrian bridge became a part of this revitalization effort, adding a unique, aesthetic bridge to the area.
The bridge has become an essential part of the Miami Valley’s rapidly growing Rails-to-Trails efforts. The 434’ long bridge succeeded in extending the Mad River Recreational Trail, which stretches from Eastwood MetroPark to downtown Dayton.
Once downtown, the trail and bikeway cross the bridge over Mad River, providing access to Deed’s Point. At Deed’s Point Park, visitors have views of downtown Dayton, its rivers, and access to an aviation timeline exhibit that shows the importance of the Wright Brothers and the city’s aviation history.
The bridge features two outer spans of 106’ with a center span of 222’ and also includes decorative lighting fixtures along its path.
