Project Architect Laurence Ferar worked with Owner Eric Lemelson to create a wine production and storage facility customized to Lemelson’s wine-making methods. Two CON/SPAN® vaults used for barrel storage rest below the above-ground production equipment area. These vaults, which vary in size, were precast with conduit for interior lighting as well as openings for hose drops. The hose drops allow for gravity flow of the wine/juice to the barrel storage area.

In addition, CON/SPAN® ’s underground winery storage solution offers the following benefits: reduced corrosion of equipment through natural temperature and humidity control, reduced disruption of winery operations during construction, fabrication off-site allows plant quality control and quick set-in- place construction, the strength of the vaults allow for heavy loading above, buried structure frees up space above vault, cost effective, aesthetic arch, long life cycle, and clear spans 12 feet to 42 feet.
