Contractor:
Mainline Road & Bridges
Installation:
July 29, 1998
Technical Description:
The existing bridge on Dayton-Xenia Road was deteriorated to 50% its load capacity, thus qualifying it for total replacement. Because the bridge was located between two schools, the County required a fast-tracked schedule during the summer to allow completion of the bridge prior to the start of the new school year.
These requirements, in addition to limited road closure, helped the bridge replacement become Ohio’s first project to be completed through all stages of the LPA (Local Public Agency) process.
The LPA process provides an opportunity for the local agency to apply for federal funding without being delayed in the DOT evaluation process. The DOT reviews the plans submitted by the local agency, therefore streamlining the planning process while maintaining control over the standards within each local agency
