The Bridge System was an economical solution for this Clark County project, allowing the county to reduce the amount of road closure and traffic disturbance to just hours per day. This CON/SPAN structure was able to utilize the existing foundations of the conventional beam bridge that exhibited significant deterioration in the concrete superstructure and upper portions of the abutments. In a single day operation, the CON/SPAN arches were slid into position leaving the existing beam bridge and abutments in place.

“My desire was to accomplish replacement of the existing structure in a cost-effective manner while minimizing the closure time on Dayton-Springfield Road” said Clark County Engineer Bruce C. Smith. “Contech Construction Products Inc. subsequently assisted our office with design details allowing the bridge replacement to be completed with road closure minimized”

Project specifications stipulated that the total time allowed for closure of the heavily trafficked roadway was not to exceed fourteen days. By the time the final pieces were installed, the road had been closed for construction only 12 partial days, reopening for traffic every evening.
