As part of roadway improvement efforts along Interstate Highway 30 (IH30), the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), needed something to help with the surface runoff over a transitional length of the roadway. This area of the highway was a super elevation section in which surface drainage was transitioning from one side of the interstate to the other.
Contech Slotted Drain™ offered a convenient method to collect the surface runoff. Given that the entire project was an improvement of an existing and heavily trafficked interstate, Slotted Drain offered a less disruptive approach to collecting and conveying surface run-off than other alternatives in these challenging drainage conditions.
Item 474 in TxDOT Standard Specification for
"Linear Drains," Contech Slotted Drain has well over one hundred thousand linear feet successfully installed and in use for over 25 years on TxDOT projects. Given this proven track record, the DOT was confident in Slotted Drain’s durability and effectiveness. Contech also had a plant conveniently located in Arlington, Texas that was able to quickly manufacture and deliver the 14, 650 LF of 16 GA, 18" diameter galvanized Slotted Drain needed to completed the project. Contech worked directly with the design team to provide a custom 13" straight grate Slotted Drain that was designed to increase the effectiveness of capturing the surface runoff.
Jay Kohler, Project Manager with K&S Utility described the experience, "Slotted Drain was easy to handle and install compared to other methods; we enjoyed working with this product and look forward to the next job."
