Technical Description:
The Dairyland Power Plant project consisted of ArmorFlex Class 30S open-cell blocks with mat sizes of 8-ft. x 16-ft. and 4-ft. x 16-ft. The block is factory cabled together to the appropriate mat size using polyester cable. The mats are then installed and toed-in for erosion protection using a spreader bar.
This project was more challenging due to high-voltage power lines running overhead. This required the use of smaller equipment and more hand labor to place the mats and backfill with crushed stone.
Dairyland Power Cooperative is a generation and transmission cooperative that provides wholesale electrical requirements and other services for 25 electric distribution cooperatives and 19 municipal utilities in the Upper Midwest. The cooperative’s generating resources include coal, hydro, natural gas, wind, landfill gas and methane digesters that meet the energy needs of more than half a million people throughout 62 counties in four states.
