A “fish friendly” natural bottom concrete CON/SPAN® bridge structure was installed at the Oregon Street crossing of West Weaver Creek in Weaverville, California. The CON/SPAN replaced an 8 foot diameter pipe culvert that was a barrier to fish migration and was insufficient to handle 1997 flood waters.

The project was the first to be funded through a five- county, salmon conservation program. Two more are slated for Del Norte and Siskiyou counties. The County Department of Transportation road crew for Weaverville assembled the CON/SPAN arch system that is a new concept designed to enable a fish bearing stream to return to its natural condition.
