Technical Description:
In order to properly protect a border patrol fence constructed in El Paso, Texas, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers chose Contech’s Pyramat High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mats to act as a channel lining for the large irrigation canal that ran parallel to the fence.
As a leading supplier of erosion control products, Contech was the optimal choice. Another contributing factor in the choice of Pyramat was its UV protective coating which enabled it to withstand the arrid conditions of the area.
Given Pyramat’s ease of installation and Signature’s prior experience with narrow timeframes, the project was able to meet its 10 day deadline even with the severe sandstorms that arose during the install process. The installation was made even more impressive by the 1,428,000 sf of Pyramat that had to be laid in the sandy soil conditions.
Corey Tomkins of Signature Contracting Services stated, “The timing on this project was crucial. The waters were coming regardless. I was the only contractor actually to sign a contract for a 10 day install but was confident that with my experience and Contech’s service it could be done.
