Swanton Schools transports approximately 750 students over 1,000 miles daily and has 18 buses in their fleet. The construction of a new transportation facility, which included a garage and parking lot, required an underground detention system to meet local stormwater regulations.

Based on past experiences with Contech, engineers from ESA Engineers, Surveyors and Associated selected an underground detention system from Contech Engineered Solutions. The system is made from 159' of 72' diameter, aluminized, corrugated metal pipe (CMP). Using 72" CMP allows the maximum runoff volume storage in the smallest footprint, while the aluminum coating will extend the system's service life.

The detention system is pretreated with a Contech CDS hydrodynamic separator. By capturing the majority of sediment, hydrocarbons, trash and debris upstream of the storage system, maintenance becomes easier as the material is collected into a smaller device with clear access for cleanout.

Bus load rating and minimal cover over the system required special emphasis on a quality installation. Also, this was the first time the contractor, G6 Infrastructure, installed a system of this type, so Contech provided a preconstruction meeting to answer any questions and ensure a smooth installation.
