The redevelopment of a commercial property with a stormwater pond necessitated a new stormwater management system. The property was redeveloped to include a Starbucks and a Chick-fil-A.

To accommodate the construction of the two out parcels, the proposed underground facility would need to provide the necessary volume in less space to limit disturbance to the existing parking areas.

After evaluating all the alternatives, engineers from Moore Bass Consulting specified a corrugated metal pipe (CMP) detention system made from 2,038 LF of 96” diameter Aluminized Steel Type 2, providing 102,760 CF of storage. CMP was chosen based on its storage efficiency, low cost, and ease of installation.

This unique project relies on the stone backfill to supplement storage. Typically achieved through perforated pipe, this project embraced Contech’s ExFiltration joint, a specially designed joint that provides reliable exfiltration performance equivalent to perforated CMP. The decision to employ ExFiltration was strategic, dramatically reducing lead times compared to traditional methods.

Using the XFiltration provided a reduced lead time compared to perforated CMP as it requires less processing and transportation and enabled the contractor to meet a challenging construction deadline.
