The Red Hawk Casino, located in Placerville, California, is a premier gaming and entertainment destination serving the Sacramento region. In an effort to enhance its utility infrastructure and ensure the safety of its patrons, the casino management embarked on a utility improvement project. A critical component of this project was the installation of an emergency overflow storage system that would tie into its existing sanitary sewer lift station. Contech Engineered Solutions, a leading provider of innovative infrastructure solutions, was selected by the project engineer, HydroScience Engineers, to deliver a reliable and durable solution. A DuroMaxx® Steel Reinforced Polyethylene (SRPE) tank was chosen to address the casino's emergency overflow requirements.
The overflow storage system was included in the project to add contingency storage volume to the existing sewer lift station wet well. This additional storage provides time for operations staff to respond and take corrective action if a pump system alarm occurs, while containing sewer flows until they can be later pumped.
Design considerations such as total required storage, and tank location changed multiple times. Contech worked closely with HydroScience as the project changed to provide sample layout details and cost estimation.
The DuroMaxx® SRPE tank arrived at the jobsite in one piece, making it easy to install directly into the ground. The contractor, Preston Pipelines Infrastructure, LLC, had to excavate the hole, set the tank, connect the tank to the lift station, and backfill all while directing traffic around the construction site. All these operations were completed in less than one week.
