Technical Description:
Product: Aluminum Box Culvert (#108)
Significant damage to an existing structure at the Cutbank Creek Crossing prevented the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) from being able to utilize the road above. This critical roadway gave access to missile silos for the Malmstrom Airforce Base out of Great Falls, Montana. In order to quickly replace the structure, the FHWA chose an Aluminum Box Culvert (ALBC) No. 108, manufactured by Contech Engineered Solutions, to create enough hydraulic capacity for replacement of the existing undersized structure. The ALBC was selected due to its hydraulic capacity and loading criteria. Additionally, it was also did not need any concrete to be hauled in which was ideal due to the remote site the structure. The ALBC came with a full invert foundation, structure, headwalls and wingwalls which was delivered on a single truckbed.
The contractor, Shumaker Trucking, was able to demo the existing structure and install the new ALBC in 2-3 weeks allowing for the roadway to be opened quickly and with minimal disruption to this crucial roadway.
