Technical Description:
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) planned to install a new storm drain in the 40 ft. wide median of Interstate 10 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Constructing a project in the median of a major highway with only a 40 ft. wide area to work with would be difficult for loading and unloading conditions. Because ADOT needed to keep road closure time to a minimum, there was no room for error.
Pulice Construction, the contractor for the project, wanted to get in and out as quickly as possible and required a product that had superior joint stiffness to withstand the extreme Arizona temperatures.
Pulice chose DuroMaxx reinforced storm drain pipe for the project. Made with steel reinforcing ribs and High-Density Polyethylene HDPE resin, DuroMaxx is both an extraordinarily strong and durable pipe. Other polyethylene plastic products would have experienced a loss in pipe stiffness with the temperatures exceeding 100 degrees (140 degrees at the pipe wall) during installation. The steel reinforcement provided the stiff material needed to get the job done.
DuroMaxx was provided in a bundling package that allowed for ease of transportation and movement around the jobsite. The contractor could install DuroMaxx 15% faster than other plastic pipe products.
