This new Continental® pedestrian truss bridge is a part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority’s (AMAFCA) West I-40 Drainage Management Plan. The project is unique in that it will move storm flows via pipes and a natural channel. The new bridge spans the natural channel and is the key link in a 2.4 mile extension to an already expansive bike trail system licensed to the city and county by AMAFCA. This new bridge was paid for by the City of Albuquerque.

The unique bridge design was a collaboration between Contech and the customer. The City wanted a bridge design that resembled the Native American rain cloud symbol used as a logo by AMAFCA. A bowstring design was considered, but the designers felt they could accomplish what the client wanted much more reasonably by modifying a standard Pony truss bridge and adding faux arches to reflect the rain cloud design. The client was very pleased with the end result and appreciated the savings they realized with the modified pony truss bridge. The structure was delivered to the site and installed in one day.
