Taking its inspiration from the beauty of the city of Savannah, Georgia, the Telfair master-planned community chose several unique bridges to compliment its Southern city feel. TBG Partners, the award-winning landscape architecture firm who created the master plan for Telfair, wanted a pedestrian bridge that would carry its recreational trail over a lake and would also match two arched vehicular bridges already serving the community.

TBG Partners worked closely with the design team at Contech exchanging sketches and ideas several times to develop a design that would emulate the vehicular bridges. A Continental ® steel truss pedestrian bridge was chosen to compliment the Savannah theme with its weathering steel finish, as TBG and Newland Communities had hoped. Finishing touches included detailed brick buttresses with planters to minimize the amount of handrail needed and Ipe hardwood bridge decking for durability and lower maintenance.

“The attractive approach and cascading plants will soften the ends of the bridge and force the eye up, keeping the visual arc going” states Susan Cita, Senior Associate for TBG Partners.

Upon completion, Telfair will have nearly 3,000 single-family home sites. It will feature 300 acres of recreational amenities including neighborhood squares and 70 acres of lakes, parks and trails.
