Technical Description:
The Sunrise Athletic Complex is a multi-sport facility located in western Broward County and owned by the City of Sunrise. The large recreational complex covers several acres and features five baseball fields, lighted tennis courts, a basketball court, two racquetball courts, two soccer fields, a football field and a community building. The city needed two pedestrian bridges to allow access over waterways to the various playing fields.
Synalovski Gutierrez Romanik Architects chose two Continental ® Connector ® truss bridges from Contech to fit their needs. One was 61 feet long by 10 feet wide and the other, smaller bridge, was 8 feet in length. Both Continental bridges were specified with a painted finish to match an earlier bridge built for the city. The structures were blast cleaned in accordance with Steel Structures Painting Council Surface Preparation Specifications No. 6 and then painted with an Industrial Grade Epoxy Primer and a Polyurethane topcoat. To complete this maintenance-free structure, durable Ipe hardwood was used for the decking.
