Over 700 acres of New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) is under development and, at completion, will include two world class road courses (over 4 miles of raceway), an exclusive country club, unique trackside Villa homes, first class karting facilities, restaurants, retail space and a hotel with conference center.
NJMP was in need of two bridges to cross the race tracks. During the planning stage of the project, the engineer, PS&S, approached Contech Engineered Solutions to discuss bridging options and chose two 30’ x 80’ weathering steel Capstone® style vehicular truss bridges. The structures were designed to cross over the race tracks in order to provide access to the paddock areas.
“The prefabricated truss bridge systems were chosen over alternative structures because they offered quick installation, reduced site preparation and ultimately lowered the project’s overall construction cost,” said Tim Edmunds, Engineer with PS&S. In addition, the owners were intrigued by the vast area inherent in the design of the structure and decided to utilize it as advertising space. Contech also provided 1800 linear feet of 84” ULTRA-FLO® Spiral Rib aluminized pipe in a large manmade ditch. This ditch drains over 450 acres from the adjacent Millville Airport. Without the ability to fill and pipe this ditch in an economical fashion, the entire project may not have happened at all.
