Technical Description:
Road America is a 628-acre, year-round motorsports facility entering its 52nd season of racing. The original track is a four mile permanent road course with 14 turns outlined by seven miles of access road. It is said to be one of the world’s finest and most challenging road courses in the world.
The track began its long-term renovation project in December 2006 to enhance the racing experience for spectators and competitors. Part of the renovation included the addition of a new tunnel between turns 13 and 14 on the road course. McMahon and Associates chose a 36’ span CON/SPAN® because of its unique precast roofing structure and ability to accommodate two lanes of vehicle traffic and two pedestrian walkways.
The tunnel will serve as the main entrance to the paddock and a new landmark on this historic race track.
