For the Keystone of Galvez subdivision, developers wanted a signature entrance. An 82-ft. span BEBO arch bridge was selected to carry Emerald Drive over Henderson Bayou, a main waterway in Ascension Parish. The structure is the largest BEBO T-Series arch installed in the U.S. to date.
For Keystone of Galvez, the long, clear span structure was in part chosen for its large hydraulic capacity and will allow vehicles to pass over Henderson Bayou even when water levels are high.
Trade Construction installed the BEBOBloc foundations, a unique foundation type that supports the T-Series arch. The BEBOBloc distributes the large horizontal reactions of the T-Series arch with an L-shaped reinforced concrete footing bearing against a large thrust block of soil cement or flowable fill.
To protect the stream banks from erosion, an ArmorFlex® concrete block revetment system was installed around the excavated area. After the units were manufactured, the mats were assembled by lacing the individual units with corrosion-resistant polyester cable. The ArmorFlex was installed in early June and the bridge was finished in two phases that same month. Stone facing has been added to the structure and the bridge will be completed with lighting and fencing.
Keystone of Galvez includes 330 acres of common area parks, mixed-used residential properties and walking trails. The development also encompasses 61 acres of lakes and 18 acres of green space.
