Technical Description:
Pulte Homes, one of the nation’s largest residential developers, wanted a high quality, aesthetic bridge for an entrance to a private development in Frisco, Texas. The Frisco Lakes community is a premier active adult community on the shores of Lake Lewisville, complete with an 18- hole golf course, clubhouse and a variety of facilities for recreational and every day use.
Initially, Pulte was considering eight 10’ x 10’ concrete box culverts for their upscale community. However, Carter & Burgess decided a Contech vehicular bridge would best meet their needs. A Capstone® style truss bridge fit closely with the look the developer was hoping to achieve for the Frisco Falls entrance. Originally, starting with a 100’ span, engineers were able to shorten the span to 80’ to bring the structure down into the channel and within budget. The vehicular stream crossing has an 80’ span and a 43’ width, including a pedestrian walkway on one side. Concrete cast-in-place abutments were faced with a stone formliner to create the appearance of real stone.
