Technical Description:
This single-span golf cart underpass/roadway overpass, one of nine CON/SPAN ® structures on the Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, features field-placed stone facing on a batter. CON/SPAN was originally considered for only two tunnel crossings under a major county road but its adaptability to the landscape architect’s scheme led to its inclusion for all nine structures on the course. “The CON/SPAN bridge system provided us with low-profile structures that could be faced with stone” said Mark Kline of Kinzelman/Kline, Landscape Architecture and Planning of Columbus, Ohio. “This fit into the attention we were giving to the use of the natural materials palette in the design elements of all the site features – including dry-laid limestone walls in signage features, limestone waterfalls and rock outcroppings”
