Technical Description:
A roadway through Camp Lejeune’s Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Course (JIEDDC) was old and in need of widening to route through a wet, swampy area.
The original plan called for steel sheeting and culvert extensions but Pomona Pipe Products worked with the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) to Value Engineer a design. They decided to completely replace the structure utilizing Corrugated Aluminum Pipe (CAP) with Aluminum Structural Plate (ALSP) headwalls.
Elite Construction and Grading installed 28-ft. of 60-in. diameter, 12 gage CORLIX® culvert solution from Contech Engineered Solutions LLC with ALSP inlet and outlet headwalls measuring 99 feet long. They also installed twin 28-ft. 36-in. diameter, 12 gage Aluminum structures with 76-ft. inlet and outlet headwalls.
A CORLIX® pipe solution was chosen as the preferred culvert because it provided improved hydraulic performance, aesthetics and a lower cost than the original plan.
“We were very pleased with the services provided by Contech and Pomona to bring this project to a successful conclusion” said Bill Green, Project Manager with Elite Construction and Grading.
