Technical Description:
Bond Park is a recreational park that the Village of Belmont has been developing over the last 15 years. Locally raised funds recently made it possible for the Village to further expand the park by adding a 2000 foot walking and exercise trail which would pass over Bonners Branch Creek. Blackhawk Engineering, Ltd., a multi-discipline engineering firm, had worked with the Village throughout the development of the Bond Park property and was asked to assist with the new phase.
Once Blackhawk’s engineers determined the trail and bridge placement, they contacted Contech to assist in the design and manufacture of the new structure. Ultimately, two sections totaling 90 feet in length were built to span the creek. The Link® Pony truss weathering steel bridges are 6’ wide with durable, low maintenance Ipe hardwood decking. Blackhawk Engineering was very pleased with the Continental® pedestrian truss bridge and the ease of installation.
“It only took 30 minutes to set the bridge” said Greg Huza, Project Engineer. “You can blame that on good construction and engineering”
It has been the generosity of private citizens and local service clubs that has allowed Bond Park to be continually improved over the years. In addition to the new exercise trail, residents can enjoy tennis courts, a ballpark, playground, grill and picnic areas.
