Technical Description:
The existing bridge at Kovar Road was an old steel truss bridge that the county was going to relocate to the City Park in Smithville, Texas. The project was to take the existing bridge out, move it to the park, convert it to a pedestrian bridge and then replace it with a new steel truss bridge. One of the issues for the bridge was the 2% cross slope on the concrete bridge decking. Contech worked closely with Dean Word to not only incorporate the additional concrete, but to deliver the vehicular structure on time and on budget. The construction of the Contech custom truss bridge took two days. No welding was done; it was all bolted construction. Contech took the plans and custom matched the style of the truss with what TXDOT wanted.
