Boulder City’s Park & Recreation Department recently renovated the River Mountain Hiking Trail. Built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the 5.5-mile trail offers a breathtaking view of Lake Mead and the Las Vegas valley. In addition to improving the trail system, a new parking facility was built. The new ramp called for a pedestrian bridge that would span from its third story to the trail system’s walkway.

The general contractor for the project, Capriati Construction, had installed several Continental® bridges in the past and knew that a Connector® style bridge that would suit their needs. ADA return handrails were specified and several decking options were considered, including steel grate and wood. Ultimately, aluminum plate decking was chosen for its low maintenance.

The 25’ long by 5.5’ wide steel structure was delivered to a Las Vegas facility for powder coating and then onto the bridge site for installation. Once on site, the bridge was quickly lowered into place with one end attached to the concrete ramp and the other bolted to a concrete cap on the bedrock.
