Technical Description:
The Indian Trail Improvement District (ITID) encompasses a 110+ square mile area in Palm Beach County, Florida. ITID area includes approximately 40,000 acre-plus size residential lots, citrus grove and sugar cane production, and the commercial and municipal development that come with a growing community. Among its many duties, the ITID is responsible for maintaining the roads and water conveyance system for the land under its jurisdiction. This includes the replacement of large culverts under roadways at canal crossings.
When the time came to remove and replace four large twin-barrel culvert crossings, minimizing road closure time was a priority. After reviewing several options, Indian Trail selected DuroMaxx® steel reinforced polyethylene (SRPE) from other available pipe options. DuroMaxx was an efficient and cost-effective solution, that not only installed quickly but also provided an improved ‘n’ value coefficient of friction, improving the flow characteristics of the crossing.
DuroMaxx was chosen because of its longer lay lengths and 100-year service life as assigned to the pipe by Florida DOT. The longer lay lengths and ease of handling allowed the ITID Operations & Maintenance Department to complete the installation utilizing their own crews. The project was successfully completed without the added expense of outside manpower or special equipment.
