Located just east of the Links Golf Course along Gleneagles Village Parkway in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, is an overpass spanning the Big Dry Creek. Typically, the creek is shallow with a slow running stream. However, during major storm events, in can become a raging torrent. To accommodate these sporadic storms, an original three-barrel, 120-inch dimeter, corrugated metal pipe was installed.
After more than thirty of years of dependable service, the culverts were reaching the end of the originally designed service life. While the wear was not severe, the Douglas County Road and Bridge Engineers determined that it should be slated for rehabilitation.
After several options were considered, reline was selected as the most effective and efficient method for rehabilitation. Due to the desire to maintain as much of the original open area as possible, a polymer-coated HEL-COR® culvert was selected as the most cost-effective product to the meet the project requirements. This provided a structural solution that would extend the service life of the existing three-barrel storm drain system. The polymer-coated option was chosen to ensure that the new pipe would have a service life of at least 100 years.
