The existing two lane bridge on SR-10 near Ferron, Utah, was deemed structurally inadequate, requiring the need for a fast and cost efficient bridge replacement. The Utah Department of Transportation worked with Nielson Construction to find a replacement structure to span Rock Canyon Walsh.

Plate structures allow highway agencies and municipalities to dramatically reduce construction time and traffic disruptions when replacing structures. A double barrel 60 degree skewed Multi-Plate Pipe Arch structure from Contech. was approved as a VE and was the chosen solution for the project.

“When we proposed the Value Engineering to UDOT, the approval took some time, putting us in a pinch on our schedule,” said Eric Luke, Project Manager with Nielson. “Contech’s timely service and delivery made it possible for us to complete the project on time and provide a quality structure that will last for many years.”
