Technical Description:
Somerset County needed to replace an existing bridge over Peters Brook near Lepp Park. The County wanted a structure with unique features that would complement the “small town” feel of the community.
Consulting Engineer, French & Parello Associates suggested a 72-ft. span BEBO® Arch bridge. The precast system provided an aesthetic and economical bridge, with reduced road closure time due to off-site precasting. With the help of two cranes lifting each piece of the twin-leaf structure into place, installation was completed in one day.
A formliner was used to create a brick finish on the spandrel walls and included recesses for medallions that were later installed in the field. The BEBO Arch structure also features precast ornamental treatments. Balusters, pylons and wingwalls were cast in place and the entire structure was stained to comply with county specifications.
“We were challenged with finding a bridge to accommodate underground utility lines as well as providing a quick installation,” said Matthew Danza, Project Engineer for French and Parello. “The BEBO structure was a good solution and it also provided the aesthetic details the County was looking for.”
