Borstar® is Borealis' state-of-the-art multi-modal proprietary technology for manufacturing polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). Combined with Borealis' unique catalyst technology, Borstar supports the production of a wide range of enhanced PE and PP products for the most demanding applications by enabling molecular design. The Borstar process offers simultaneous improvements in conversion economics and in key environmental aspects, such as energy efficiency and raw material recycling.

Bayport Polymers LLC, the 50/50 joint venture owned by Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc. and Novealis Holdings LLC, held its official groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new 625,000 metric ton-per-year Borstar® polyethylene unit at its production site in Pasadena, Texas, with an anticipated start-up in 2021.

As a part of the new Borealis refinery located in Pasadena, Texas, the engineer of record, Jacob Engineering, developed a storm water pollution prevention plan to improve the infrastructure. A local contractor, WT Byler, installed a polymer-coated ULTRA FLO® drainage system provided by Accurate Utility Supply. With diameters ranging from 18-inches to 72-inches, a total of 5,420 LF was installed on site. ULTRA FLO® is a spiral rib pipe with a smooth interior manufactured by Contech Engineered Solutions LLC that offers an efficient hydraulic system. The heavy-gage polymer-coated pipe protects against abrasion and corrosion and can provide a service life of 100+ years.
