In 2019, Southwest Missouri announced the development of a new industrial rail and business park to the region. The Southwest Missouri Regional Rail and Business Park, as it was aptly named, would be conveniently located in the midst of a growing population approaching half a million people and provide additional opportunities to aid in the economic expansion to the area. The Southwest Missouri Regional Rail and Business Park would provide warehouse storage, logistical convenience, and developer opportunities to those interested in expanding their reach as it would be situation on the BNSF rail and Interstate-44. This development included opportunities for eligible design-build leasebacks and a new spec building.

In light of the development of this new 200-acre industrial park, MoDNR required an emergency overflow basin be included with the new lift station slated within the construction of the new development.

Initially, the consulting engineer, Anderson Engineer, considered three separate options. The first option was  a simple open-air pond with a connection to the wet well. However, it was determined that there was not room to fit this into the site. The second option considered was an ultra-large diameter underground storage solution, for this 115 LF of 96-inch diameter pipe would be needed with an additional 300 LF of 60-inch diameter pipe. The last option considered was a concrete-walled basin, something small and narrow with high vertical sides to fit within the site parameter. However, the gravel drive and water line would need to be shifted to accommodate which would increase cost significantly.

Ultimately, Anderson Engineer selected a DuroMaxx® steel reinforced polyethylene (SRPE) combined sewer overflow (CSO) system with anti-flotation tiedowns to meet the needs of the project. The DuroMaxx® SRPE combined the strength of steel with the durability of plastic, resulting in an extraordinarily strong and durable pipe. With lower installed costs and quick turnaround, the 120-inch diameter DuroMaxx CSO system, designed to handle the required 45,525 gallons of sewer overflow from the nearby lift station, proved to be a better solution to the cast-in-place and fiberglass tank options. The owner, project engineer, and contractor were all pleased with the cost savings, project design and ease of installation with the DuroMaxx CSO solution.
