Technical Description:
The City of Cortez decided to extend East Seventh Street to provide a new connection between the southern residential neighborhoods and retail areas along East Main Street. In addition to the road construction, the City wanted to extend Seventh Street further for future commercial and residential development.
The newly extended roadway needed to cross over a protected wetlands area. To avoid a time consuming permitting process, Souder, Miller & Associates chose a CON/SPAN® precast arch structure as the clear span solution. Additional wetlands were established around the structure to mitigate land removed during road construction.
Installation of the CON/SPAN structure was complete in two days. The use of precast arches allowed SMA to finish the project ahead of schedule.
