A large expansion plan of Quantico Corporate Center was announced in June in order to accommodate several new businesses moving into the center. Planners had an aggressive goal to expand to over 1,000,000 square feet overall, with 250,000 square feet open by the end of 2007.
About 500’ from Route 1, a new entrance drive to the facility was needed to accommodate the expansion. Development Consulting Services recognized a need for a structure to cross a stream at the entrance location. Working with Contech Bridge Solutions, they found a SUPER-SPAN plate structure to best fit their needs. The structure could accommodate 45-degree and 57-degree skewed ends, which effectively avoided both environmental impacts and right-of-way limitations.
“The high profile arch was the perfect bridge solution for a crossing that was limited in span length, width and height by a number of serious factors,” said Bryon Counsell, Project Manager for Development Consulting Services.
The fast-tracked project was completed in September. Consulting Engineers AES worked closely with Stafford County, other government agencies, and Henderson Construction to expedite the project. AES designed the master plan for the entire layout of the site, including an overall stormwater management plan.
