Technical Description:
The City of Paducah is bustling with shopping centers and restaurants. When construction was needed for Olivet Church Road – KY 998, they were looking for cost-effective solutions that would additionally save them time. It was important to the owner that access was available for the holiday shopping season. Therefore, staying on budget and inside strict time parameters was essential to the success of the project.
Originally, reinforced concrete pipe was to be used for the drainage along the road. Instead, Contech Engineered Solutions' spiral rib corrugated metal pipe (CMP) called ULTRA FLO® provided both installation cost savings and time savings. These savings are due to longer lay lengths and lighter material than traditional reinforced concrete pipe (RCP). Contech's ULTRA FLO pipe was selected because it offered the same hydraulic performance as RCP.
When it was apparent that the job was overbudget, E’GRID® geogrid was used as an alternative to lime stabilization. This particular project allowed for a direct substitution of geogrid in place of the 8" layer of lime stabilization thus saving the owner money and the contractor time. In addition to these benefits, E'GRID® geogrid was an environmentally conscious approach to subgrade stabilizatoin in a highly congested commercial area.
