Technical Description:
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the State of New Jersey collaborated to restore a historic piece of property along the Raritan River. The Corps’ Finderne Wetlands Mitigation Project, which focuses on 130 acres of land in Somerset County, is part of the Green Brook Project, designed to reduce flood damage in New Jersey’s Raritan River Basin.
The project involved stream restoration of Finderne Brook that runs through portions of the site. The stream was eroding, and to create a more natural water flow and restore its habitat, the Corps replaced an undersized pipe culvert with a bottomless CON/SPAN® precast arch bridge. The structure also provides access to a visitor parking area where a nature walkway begins.
