Technical Description:
The I-95 Interstate widening project in Northern Brevard County, Florida, required 18-in. 24-in. and 30-in. A-2000 PVC drainage pipe.
A-2000 drainage pipe offered all of the initial cost advantages associated with thermoplastic pipe without the performance limitations of HDPE or reinforced concrete pipe. The material advantage offered by PVC – plus innovative, double wall design with the unique, patented gasketed joint system – made A-2000 the ideal choice for this stormwater drainage system.
The majority of the storm sewer was installed underneath a cast-in-place median barrier wall. The height of cover between the crown of the pipe and the bottom of the wall footer was very small – less than 18-in.
The project was successful in the very stringent laser profiling pipe inspection method adopted by the FDOT. This was one of the first jobs to be laser-profiled in the Central Florida region.
