A $1.5 billion public-private venture between the federal government, the State of Utah and private developers, the new development at Hill Air Force Base called Falcon Hill is a three-and-a-half mile long aerospace research park on the western edge of the base.

The Air Force also plans to lease out 550 acres of land to a developer for 50 years. The private development, under the Air Force Enhanced Use Lease Program, will feature over two million square feet of commercial space in its first phase alone. As the project progresses over the next 20 to 25 years, it will eventually offer more than eight million square feet of office and retail space.

The project broke ground in October, 2011. While working on the stormwater detention system aspect of the project, project engineer Great Basin Engineering, Inc. and the Air Force decided to utilize A-2000 PVC pipe for the system.

“Because HDPE pipe did not have the strength characteristics I needed for this project, I selected A-2000 PVC pipe,” explained Dave Waldron, Project Manager. “It is stronger, easy to design around, and went together nicely.”

Other benefits of A-2000 Pipe include a long service life, superior corrosion and abrasion resistance with low maintenance, water-tight joints (with patented double-sealing gasketed joint), superior load capacity, large diameter range and superior hydraulics. The product is also long and lightweight, allowing for easier installation with the use of smaller and safer equipment.

M.C. Green & Sons, Inc. installed 6,300-ft. of 24-in. diameter A-2000.
