Technical Description:
The City of Culver, Oregon was in need of a better solution to recycle and reuse the wastewater stored in their lagoons, so that they would still be able to accomplish land disposal.
Prior to applying the treated effluent from a wastewater lagoon, it needs to be disinfected. The chosen method is chlorination and the disinfection process requires the water to be in contact with chlorine for a specific period of time. In order for this to occur, the chamber must have a port for the chlorine injection as well as provide the storage for the water to mix with the chlorine for the correct length of time.
The City selected DuroMaxx steel reinforced polyethylene (SRPE) to provide the needed storage unit for both its durability as well as its economic advantage over solid wall HDPE.
The installation of the contact chamber took approximately one week to complete and was very successful.
“The DuroMaxx SPRE product was one of the few available that accommodated the internal pressure while also providing a variety of access and connection options,” stated Darrin Eckman, P.E., Project Manager with Tenneson Engineering Corporation.
