City of Irwindale
Sully MIller Contracting Company
Sully Miller Contracting installed a 48-foot span CON/SPAN® in Los Angeles County to cross a County Flood Control Channel with the new Buena Vista Street realignment. Through an agreement between the City of Irwindale and United Rock, one of Southern California’s largest rock mining facilities, the City agreed to realign the existing street that currently cuts through United Rock’s next mining region.
Contech worked closely with HDR Engineering in Orange, California, to provide a design that would fit within the tight roadway profile. The roadway met an intersection less than 200 feet from the channel crossing, and Los Angeles County required the city to build a bridge separate from the existing channel invert. These two factors resulted in a 48-foot span CON/SPAN that met the engineer’s clearance requirements.
Anticipating a three-day installation, Sully Miller installed the 140-foot long CON/SPAN structure – including two detached headwalls and four wingwalls – in just two days.
