Hitt Contracting Inc.
As America Online had grown and expanded its Dulles, Virginia campus, they found that employees needed to cross an increasingly busy four lane road in order to move from building to building. Contech worked with Hitt Contracting, a local contractor to come up with a design- build solution that gave employees safe access across the road.
Contech provided a 170’ clear span prefabricated steel bridge painted to match some of the existing buildings. A stairway and several ADA ramps were also provided for this project.
In a six-month timeframe, the project received permit approval and the bridges, ramps and stairways were designed, built and delivered to the site for installation. Within days after the concrete deck was placed, the employees were enjoying a safe commute across the road between their buildings.
The project was so successful that in 2002 Continental Bridge provided another overpass for AOL only 200 yards away from the first one. The second bridge is pictured here.
