The building of Oak Forest Manor, a new subdivision with 79 homes in Houston, Texas, necessitated the need for a stormwater detention system. Site constraints did not allow for traditional above ground detention methods, so engineers designed an underground detention system made from corrugated metal pipe (CMP) provided by Contech.

The detention volume of 104,554 CF was substantial compared to the available pavement footprint. Different diameter pipes were utilized, based on the elevations across the site, to allow for a gravity draining system. A combination of 72”, 84” and 120” diameter CMP was utilized.

The engineer selected the Contech system based on the ability to provide varying pipe diameters and a unique system layout. Overall, this solution provided a quality system that would meet the detention volume requirements at a cost-effective price.
